Steam equipment failures may well be justified with remarks such as it probably died of old age or they don't make them like they used to. When such failures occur, maintenance managers invariably resort to in-kind replacement of failed steam equipment.
This includes such varying items as steam coils, heat exchangers, pressure regulating valves, safety relief valves, control valves, steam traps, and condensate pumps. Incorrect steam and condensate piping, which invariably causes the vast majority of such equipment failures, is seldom recognized as the culprit and almost never corrected!
